Someone please explain to me what this will accomplish for democracy in Iran. This event seems to be more for the benefit (entertainment) of those involved than that of the Iranian people.

Mark, I am glad you asked. It may very well appear as though people are just larking about for a bit of fun, but there is a purpose behind all these events. Every blog post, tweet, article that brings the situation in Iran to the attention of the rest of the world IS helping the people of Iran.

Some of them actually risk their lives to find a way to send messages to us to let us know how important it is to them that we are aware, we care, and they are not forgotten.

If you look for signs of support coming from the many democracies in the world, or from groups like the United Nations, you will quickly realise that without ordinary people like us showing we care, the Iranians would be all alone. They know this and they are very thankful for our small efforts.

[...] There’s a Flash Mob Protest against the Iran election planned for tonight in the esplanade between the main gates of Disneyland and California Adventure. No signs, no chants, just a recreation of the Improve Everywhere Grand Central Station stunt where people freeze in place with the crowd going around them. I think the organizers could have chosen a better location for their protest logistic wise, but this one at least gives them a small bit of free publicity. Details here. [...]
