SILENT WAVE OF LIGHT
Silent Wave of Light – 18th through 24th September 2009
Candlelight vigils in support of freedom for Iran and in memory of protesters killed, imprisoned, and tortured over the past three months since the post-election demonstrations in Iran.
We are calling on organizers and caring people around the world to join together in a Silent Wave of Light starting at 8pm on Friday 18th through 10pm Thursday 24th September 2009 by holding hour-long candlelit vigils.
The Silent Wave of Light will travel the globe across all timezones starting Friday 18th September in Australia, and on around the world throughout the week, until the evening of Thursday 24th September. We urge you to share the event details with as many people as you can.
As we join in spirit to light candles, and perhaps recite prayers or poems, we will be honoring the bond that has grown steadily between ordinary people within Iran and their counterparts in hundreds of countries on every continent. At the same time, the United Nations Global Assembly is scheduled to take place in New York, and in spite of protests and petitions, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is expected to attend.

In the same week Project Green Light is calling on homes, offices, businesses to ‘Light up the Night’ with green lights to show support for a free Iran.
Please visit http://United4Iran.org for more information on this project.
There will also be massive demonstrations in New York on both Wednesday and Thursday, and thousands of people are planning to take the journey to attend in person.
Please visit http://voices4iran.org for more information on these events.
For the rest of us, our candles will create a Silent Wave of Light that demonstrates our unity with those in New York, and everywhere that freedom and justice are valued.

Toronto – August 8, 2009

Saturday August 8th was chosen as the day for the freeze. An event in which many Iranians of Toronto came together to ‘theatrically’ mock the unnecessary killings of people in the streets of Iran. Young boys and girls, with green tape or cloth covering their mouths had taken on the roles of the innocent victims of the recent uprisings in Iran. Victims who were requesting for one simple right: Freedom. The young individuals, dressed in green and black came together at Dundas Street, at the heart of Toronto and later gathered at Yonge & Bloor intersection, … check out the full article and incredible video at salamtoronto.ca

Trafalgar Square – London, England
please read @amazingsusan’s original post on her site – Amazing Women Rock
“My singular stand in the square was to be a small contribution to the Worldwide Wave of Silence that marked the 40th day of mourning after the death of Neda Agha Soltan, whose killing in the streets of Tehran galvanized protesters across her country, and created sympathy for the Iranian “green” movement around the world.
As I was unaccompanied, I asked an obliging young German man to document the event with my digital camera. My hope, based solely on the fact that he had an impressive piece of SLR equipment hanging around his neck, was that he would capture a few reasonable pics of the proceedings, and not pocket my camera, being already in possession of a much more expensive and sophisticated one of his own.
I think he did a commendable job, but I leave you to be the judge
